Since 2001, the Automotive Service Excellence organization has honored the commitment and dedication of automotive, truck and collision technicians, along with parts specialists and other support professionals. This year, June 8 through 14 is National Automotive Service Professionals Week. What started as National Automotive Service Professionals Day in 2005 has now expanded into a week-long celebration. Take a holistic look at everything the industry has to offer.

In an economy fraught with hard times, an automotive career is a wise decision. This sector is hungry for new talent and ready to take on up-and-coming professionals. With the promise of a career that offers both mentally and physically stimulating work, you have to at least take a look.

In such a specialized field, it is important to learn necessary skills like welding methods for repairing body damage, computerized estimating, electrical testing and manufacturer diagnostics.

This isn't just a boys' club, as women are diving into the automotive world with great success. From mechanic roles to shop managers, women shouldn't shy away from getting in on the action.

This industry isn't backing down any time soon. There will be a 13 percent increase in the number of automotive body and glass repairer jobs between 2012 and 2022, according to the .

Many students might look elsewhere for career options, believing that mechanics will one day be unnecessary. Even though cars are becoming more technologically sophisticated every year, though, the industry still needs professionals who can troubleshoot, repair and maintain that technology!

The training and education necessary to properly diagnose and repair today’s sophisticated vehicle fleet requires a significant level of knowledge, skill and dedication. You too can.
